Dallas Slankard
What excites you about Sophisticated Ladies and the role you are playing?
Christopher Page Sanders! He is the best director and choreographer and getting to work with him again is such an incredible opportunity! I am so excited to be doing a strictly dance role in this one. It is such a wonderful challenge to be pushed to new levels that I have never experienced before.
What’s your process like in preparing for a show like this, and how does that process change (if at all) from other shows?
This show requires such a dedication to each of our personal health, whether that be vocally or physically. It is a significantly shorter rehearsal process than I am used to so, as one of the dancers, I have really had to listen to my body and take it easy during my day to day to stay at the top of my game throughout such an intense rehearsal process.
What’s your biggest challenge about taking on this role?
The biggest challenge has been trusting myself and Christopher. Christopher has such an incredible way of tailoring choreography to each dancer that he has and trusting myself to take on whatever he gives me has been such a lovely challenge.
How did you get started performing?
I started dancing when I was 4 years old and got started with Musical Theatre when I was 7, doing The Nutcracker at my elementary school. The theatre bug stuck and here we are!
Why do you still perform?
Performing is incredible. I have met some of the most incredible people and made some of my best friends while doing shows. Who wouldn't want to experience that as often as they can?!?
What’s your dream role, and what do you feel you would bring to it?
Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. I love Shakespeare and haven't gotten to do it since I was in undergrad. Beatrice is such a complex character and goes against all archetypes of the literary heroine, yet she still gets to fall in love. She is the dream.
What’s a fun fact people may not know about you?
A lot of people do actually know this but I was crowned Glamour Baby Queen of Colorado when I was 6 months old. It's my #1 fun fact.
