Meet the Cast of She Kills Monsters: Darius Cade
Introduce yourself: where have audiences seen your work recently and where can they see you next?
Hello there! My name is Darius Cade and I am ecstatic to be a part of this production! I have recently portrayed the character Riley in Audacious Immersive’s An Audacious Murder which was an interactive murder mystery experience. I also portrayed the character Marcus in the film “With Liberty and Justice for All” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUKDXAkQcX4).
What is your role in the cast and what is your favorite part of that role?
I portray the character Orcus/ Ronnie. My favorite element of his character is how carefree and funny he is. He is really just along for the ride and finds levity in many of the situations. Granted, he isn’t the most skilled or enthusiastic fighter, but he almost gives it his best, occasionally. Additionally, his obsession with television mirrors my video game obsession from back in the day.
What fantasy characters from literature and media have influenced you and why?
One of the fantasy characters that has influenced me is Rock Lee from the Manga and Anime Naruto. Not sure if that fully counts as fantasy but it is about ninjas who possess supernatural abilities so it could be fantasy adjacent. In this fantastical world there is Rock Lee who has no powers whatsoever. He constantly grinds and works to make his body stronger so that he can compete with the people who do have powers. Everyone constantly doubted him and thought he wouldn’t amount to anything but he continued to push himself to be the strongest he can be. That has stayed with me to this day. To constantly work to improve myself and to never give up! Also he taught me to train with ankle weights!
Do you have a favorite line or moment from the show?
My favorite line is probably from Miles where he goes “He brings her into a dungeon?” It never fails to crack me up! My favorite moment is the party’s fight with Evil Tina and Evil Gabbi. The fight is extraordinarily dynamic, evolving through the course of the battle.
Please share a fond rehearsal memory from this process!
One of my fondest memories so far in the process occurred when we were going over a scene between Kaliope and Agnes. They had been running through the scene and it had been funny throughout. On the final run, no spoilers, but there was a choice made that was absolutely hysterical. The moment happened and It brought not only myself, but two other people to the floor from the amount of laughter! There are many moments in this show that are sure to make people laugh, but that moment in rehearsal truly brought a tear to my eye and took my breath away… due to the amount of laughter.
Have you played Dungeons and Dragons? What kind of character have you played/would you like to play?
I have never played Dungeon and Dragons but it has always been something interesting to me. I would definitely play as a Barbarian or Fighter, someone who gets in close. I more than likely would get wrecked but any chance I get to play a close combat savage or warrior is a chance worth taking. I play characters similar to this in RPG video games as well and let me tell you, I’m a beast!
How would you describe She Kills Monsters to someone who is brand new to the play?
I would describe She Kills Monsters as an epic adventure about a woman learning about her sister with the backdrop of an epic D&D campaign, which means lots of fighting monsters!
Why should audiences come see She Kills Monsters?
Audiences should see She Kills Monsters because it is the perfect balance of action, drama, comedy and epic adventure. It really has something for everyone and at the end of the day is a heart-warming story that will resonate with all who see it. Plus the choreography is exceptional!
