Matthew Murry
The Inheritance is a production not a lot of theatres take on for the simple fact that it’s broken into two parts. What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges behind-the-scenes?
Since we are performing two plays, there are a LOT of lines!
What excites you about The Inheritance and the role you are playing?
The Inheritance is a wonderfully written script that combines bold theatricality with brutal and beautiful truth. I have enjoyed learning about the life of E.M. Forster (also known as "Morgan" in the play) and reading his novels!
Do you feel an epic like this can feel a bit daunting? Is there more pressure on you as a performer, and how do you prepare for that?
Yes, but if you break the play down scene by scene and moment by moment, it becomes manageable.
It’s not often you see a two-part theatre production. I’d imagine family or friends are either super intrigued by the idea or hesitant when you tell them. Have you heard any of these?
Yes! Luckily I've only heard sentiments of excitement and positivity.
What’s your biggest challenge about taking on this role?
As a narrator of sorts, I've had the challenge and opportunity to personalize moments of simple storytelling while breaking the fourth wall. The words must truly matter to me and to my character!
How did you get started performing?
One may as well begin with Matthew's membership in a drama club.
Why do you still perform?
It brings me joy! Each production and group of artists is unique. We are given a chance to create something special each and every time that we step on the stage together.
What’s your dream role, and what do you feel you would bring to it?
I have many bucket-list roles in the plays of Shakespeare, Ibsen, Checkhov, Coward, and anything farce!
What’s a fun fact people may not know about you?
The Super Mario Bros. are near and dear to my heart.
