Meet the Spellers: Meghan Ralph
Introduce yourself! Where have audiences seen your work before and what's coming up next for you?
Meghan Ralph is the assistant director for Spelling Bee. She previously assistant directed last year's "The Roommate". She's done just about every job imaginable in theatre including being a Vintage Theatre bartender.
What is your favorite aspect of your role within the Spelling Bee team? What makes it unique?
Being an assistant director is a lot like being the emotional support animal of the cast and crew. I love being a source of support and connection for the team. I am a sounding board for the director, I can give feedback and comradery to the cast. It's great to help in lots of little small ways that make a big difference.
What would you say to an audience member who's never seen this show before?
Spelling Bee is an underdog story, and I love rooting for the underdog. It'll touch your heart and make you laugh, it's going to be fun and remind you of being young and also make you glad you aren't in middle school still trying to figure out life. It's such a fun, uplifting night out at the theatre!
Do you have a favorite line or song from the show? If so, what is it and why?
Life is Panda... they sing it in Pandemonium and the first time I heard it I laughed.
Any spelling bee-related memories from your past you care to share?
When I was in middle school, my dad and I would use our staircase as a spelling game. I would start at the bottom and if I spelled the word right, I would get to move up. If I made it all the way up and down the stairs I won! It's a fun memory.
If you were to assign a word to another member of the team to spell in front of the group, which word would you choose and why?
Discombobulated is my favorite word... I don't know why, but I like the sound of it.
