Atlas Drake Returns to the Vintage Stage

I’m Atlas Drake, I’m deeply honoured and ecstatic to return to Vintage for The Legend of Georgia McBride. Some of you might recognise me as Carla from Vintage’s 2023 production of In the Heights, by Lin Manuel Miranda or maybe even as Alice Murphy in MSU Denver’s fall production of Bright Star by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.

It has been such a beautiful adventure to experience the Georgia McBride process. I’m a senior at MSU Denver studying Musical Theatre, and I ended up finding out about the show from Troy while supporting some friends in Miner’s Alley’s production of The Cherry Orchard.

After talking up the show, I read the script and fell in love with the story. Matthew Lopez is one of my newfound favourite playwrights—huge fan of The Inheritance—so I knew if the same playwright wrote Georgia McBride, I wanted to be in the room.

Not only does this story follow the journey of self discovery, but it also shines a spotlight on the heart of found family, expressions of queerness, and showcases the power of unconditional love—especially in those closest to you.

Georgia McBride is the first full play I’ve been a part of in some time, my last few shows all having been musicals and a one act. I’m looking forward to diving deep into heart of family and self love through Georgia McBride.

Every single member of this cast and crew has been a treasure to work with and learn from. I hope all who come to share a night with us, can feel like they’re a part of our found family, and are ready to authentically strut in their high heels, glitter, and embrace our humanity as much as we do!
