What excites you about Gyspy and the role you are playing?
The dancing! I love the classic musical theater style of dance, it’s my favorite style to do, so getting to perform it in front of an audience bigger than my closest friends is super exciting!
What’s your process like in preparing for a show like this, and how does that process change (if at all) from other shows?
I like to practice my facial expressions and dances in the mirror in my room, it’s definitely a tradition for me to be up past my curfew practicing what I look like in front of my mirror, instead of doing homework.
What’s your biggest challenge about taking on this role?
Making myself stand out, but not distract, and making sure I feel cohesive but different from other cast members. Its a difficult goldilocks zone.
How did you get started performing?
I started performing because my mom’s friend from work noticed I was loud and suggested I try it out in 5th grade, so my mom put me in a camp to get my energy out, and after that I just kept coming back!
Why do you still perform?
Something about being on the stage and getting to dance and sing with no judgment makes me happier than anything else, plus getting to know theatre people is the best, because theatre people are the best.
What’s your dream role, and what do you feel you would bring to it?
Dawn from Waitress! Her romance story where she resists but then gives in is so adorable to me and in the role I would want to embrace the soft side of Dawn that she likes to hide beneath her big glasses.
What’s a fun fact people may not know about you?
My favorite animals are penguins and I love to look at penguin cartoons in my spare time.
