What excites you about Young Frankenstein the Musical?
Do I have to pick just one thing? All of it! The music and the dance numbers are SO fun. I’m thrilled to be working with new people. I think we all just need a silly escape from “real life” right now, and this is the perfect show for that, whether as a performer or an audience member.
What’s your process like in preparing for a show like this, and how does that process change (if at all) from other shows?
I think my process changes a bit to gear towards whichever show I’m currently doing. This show has some huge dance numbers and difficult harmonies, so I make sure to run through my track before every rehearsal! I also try to maintain healthy habits outside of rehearsals with a balanced diet and exercise.
What’s your biggest challenge about taking on this role?
The endurance required as a dancer and a singer throughout the show! Talk about breath support. This will also be my first seven-week run, so I’m excited to figure out how I’m going to keep things fresh and spontaneous for every performance.
How did you get started performing?
I was always putting on shows for my family and friends as a kid- my best friend and I would write out invitations and be the after-dinner entertainment. I remember seeing a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, and I absolutely lost my mind; I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen! I knew I needed to be up on stage. I joined my school’s Drama Club at 12 and never stopped.
Why do you still perform?
Theatre is such a beautiful art form, and I love the work and collaboration it takes to put on a show. Working with other artists is always so inspiring. There’s nothing quite like the fulfillment of watching a show come together from start to finish. Also…it’s REALLY fun.
What’s your dream role, and what do you feel you would bring to it?
I would LOVE to be a dancer in any Fosse style show, but my dream roles are a tie between Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Velma Kelley in Chicago. I feel that I would bring the sass and the charm to play either of these ladies!
What’s a fun fact people may not know about you?
I’m a horse girl. I rode and showed in dressage (which is like ballet for horses). If I wasn’t pursuing performing, I would be training horses and teaching people how to ride!
