Meet the Cast of Sisters of Swing: Susan Rahmsdorff-Terry
Introduce yourself: where have audiences seen your work recently and where can they see you next?
Hi, I'm Susan Rahmsdorff-Terry, and I'm delighted to be part of Sisters of Swing! While audiences haven't seen me on stage for several years, they most likely have seen shows that I have costumed, most recently Murder on the Orient Express and Della Doucet at Vintage Theatre! Previously, I performed as part of the Opera Colorado Chorus and as Georgie the Bartender in Performance Now's My Fair Lady.
What is your role in the cast?
I am the female Swing, which means that I cover all three sisters' parts in case of any illness or emergency.
Do you have a favorite song or moment from the show?
The creation of Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen, one of the sisters' biggest hits, is probably my favorite scene and song in the show,
Please share a fond rehearsal memory from this process!
Working with Sammy, Bethany and Tracy has been a joy - They have been so supportive as I learn all their parts to try and fit into the show as seamlessly as possible!
How much did you know about the Andrew Sisters and their cultural impact before starting to rehearse this show?
I knew their big hits, but none of their stories before becoming famous, or what happened after. It's been an interesting learning process to compare what we know now compared to the story as it's written for the show!
Who are some of your favorite vocalists and have they influenced your approach to the show?
My biggest influence for this show is the Puppini Sisters, a british close harmony group that do crazy arrangements of modern songs (Including I will Survive and Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights). They have a great sense of play with the music that's been really wonderful to lean into. I also listen a lot to Measha Bruggergosman, a Canadian opera singer who does FABULOUS cabaret performances as inspiration for genre switching as a trained opera singer.
Why should audiences come see Sisters of Swing?
The Music and the Comedy! While the show has many serious moments, the comedy is absolutely sparkling and the music will make you want to get up and dance!
