Meet the Creative Team of Della Doucet: Paul Jaquith
Introduce yourself! Where have audiences seen your work recently and where can they find you next?
Hi everyone, I'm Paul and I'm very pleased to be the Director of this World Premiere! I was last seen onstage in the World Premiere of The Headliners by Jeffrey Neuman at Cherry Creek Theatre. Before that, I was in the World Premiere of The Best Day of Your Life by Phlip Kaplan here at Vintage Theatre. Next, you'll be able to find me here at the Vintage Bar where I frequently bartend. I also am looking forward to seeing my 3 young boys!
What is your favorite aspect of your role on the creative team?
Every time I direct, my favorite thing is telling a story that makes an audience think. The characters in Della are so rich and written so well. I have had a wonderful time making sure every character feels real and that the audiences can relate to them in some way.
Why is it important for audiences to support new plays?
New plays are the life-blood of theatre. Without support from audiences, we run out of stories to tell and the whole industry is set back. Aside from that, experiencing something new can be exhilarating. You don't know what you are going to see, what feelings you are going to feel, what memories are going to be made. Don't deny yourself a wonderful new story.
You're taking an unexpected trip to New York: what are the top five essentials do you pack?
Sunglasses - it's bright in those streets and in Times Square.
Raincoat - mainly because whenever I go it almost always rains.
Water - hydration, people!
Phone - let's face it, you can't do most things without a phone these days.
Cash - there are so many street vendors and food carts and taxi/subway rides, you HAVE to have cash with you in NYC.
What do you hope audiences take away from Della Doucet?
That it's never too late to start your life anew. Once you decide to start over, don't let anything stand in your way.
