Meet the Cast of Sisters of Swing: Tracy Denver
Introduce yourself: where have audiences seen your work recently and where can they see you next?
My most recent show was a new musical called, Banned the Musical, which I had the opportunity to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland! As far as what's next, I haven't booked that show yet. But I will be busy with two teenage girls until then!
What is your role in the cast/creative team and what is your favorite part of that role?
My role is the oldest Andrews sister, LaVerne. I am an only child so my favorite part is getting to be a 'sister'!
Do you have a favorite song or moment from the show?
My favorite song is 'Count Your Blessings'. My mom unexpectedly passed away 3 years ago and this was one of her favorite hymns. Being able to sing it feels like a heavenly hug from her.
How much did you know about the Andrew Sisters and their cultural impact before starting to rehearse this show?
I didn't know a ton about the Andrews Sisters other than their Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy song, which I actually danced to in high school! It has been fun researching them, watching their old videos, listening to their singing style and learning more about their family history as we prepare for the show!
Why should audiences come see Sisters of Swing?
It's a funny script with amazing, ear-pleasing music! The story holds a certain innocence that tends to come with shows set in this time period, paired with family dynamics that we all have experienced in some form or another! And love. All good shows have a love story!
